Belgian start-up TGR Pallets is taking an important step towards more sustainable logistics. The company is introducing a new CO₂-negative transport pallet that not only provides a high-quality alternative to traditional wooden pallets, but also contributes to a circular economy.
Initially, TGR will focus on the Belgian market, followed by the Netherlands, and will collaborate with companies with Belgian roots that place a strong emphasis on sustainability. The start-up receives financial and operational support from Entrevest, the Belgian investment fund dedicated to start-ups and scale-ups that drive innovation within traditional sectors of the European economy through new products and applications.
TGR’s innovative pallets are lighter than conventional wooden pallets and feature a nestable design, saving up to 65% in space during transport and storage. The patented innovation lies in the use of an alternative fibre, combined with a bio-based, formaldehyde-free adhesive developed in collaboration with VITO.
As a result, the pallets are CO₂-negative at product level, offering superior quality, a longer lifespan and water resistance. For logistics providers and manufacturing companies, this translates into a smaller ecological footprint as well as more efficient handling and lower costs. Moreover, TGR pallets are competitively priced compared to traditional wooden pallets, enabling companies to invest in sustainability without incurring additional costs.
Since May 2025, the new pallet type has been tested by leading industry players, including DHL. The results of this test phase are highly promising: companies not only benefit from the pallet’s CO₂-negative properties but also report significant cost and efficiency gains.
The use of the TGR pallet enables businesses to make their logistics processes more sustainable without compromising on quality. The combination of low weight, nestability and durability makes the pallet an excellent alternative to conventional ones, while its reusability supports the circular economy.
“The quality and robustness of the TGR pallet is remarkable. The combination of the low weight and nestability of the pallet provides huge (operational) benefits and makes it equal or even better than what it’s supposed to replace!” Ralph Higgins, First Choice Coordinator at DHL.
“Our pallets are designed not only to reduce the ecological footprint but also to help companies save costs without compromising on quality,” says Jorden D’Hulster, founder of TGR. “In the initial phase, we will mainly offer the pallets as one-way pallets, as this type is already well known in the market. But we are convinced that once companies experience the sustainability and quality of TGR pallets, they will choose to reuse them more frequently.”
TGR believes that continuous quality improvement is the key to further growth. As companies discover the benefits of TGR pallets, reuse will naturally increase. The company has the capability to fully recycle its pallets at the end of their lifecycle, using them as raw material for new ones. This creates a closed-loop system, and by 2028, TGR aims to establish an open-loop model allowing companies to return their old or damaged pallets for reuse.
TGR’s ambition is to achieve 250% growth in output volume by late 2026 or early 2027, and to double this again by Q2 2028. This strategy is designed to strengthen its position as a full-fledged alternative to nailed wooden pallets in sectors such as manufacturing (spare parts, cosmetics, pharma), export, fast-moving consumer goods and colli transport.
“We continue to invest in developing new products and improving our formaldehyde-free, bio-based adhesive to deliver an even more sustainable product without compromising on quality,” D’Hulster adds. “We always listen to market needs and are open to developing new applications and products in response to demand.”
“We strongly believe in TGR’s potential to transform the logistics sector,” says Niels Diepvens, Partner at Entrevest. “What sets TGR apart is the combination of sustainable innovation and profitability. We are convinced that TGR, with its CO₂-negative pallets, can contribute to a circular economy and make a global impact. That is why we support them not only financially but also operationally in their ambition to scale to other markets and continue their growth.”
